i am so excited to release more mid instrumental music soon! i know earlier in the year, i said i would release an album sometime this year, but i wanted to know for the 1-3 people that read this...would you be interested in an EP for sooner content? or wait x amount of months for an album
in the past, i have usually released an EP prior to an album. like the 'golden days' ep was followed by 'memory lane' while the self-titled album was preceded by the undertow ep for example
if you don't count the christmas ep released in 2024, i have not released one since 2023 (crazy)

So for the 99.9% of readers that did not know this, a few weeks ago, Ai (the J-Pop singer) released a remix version of her 2017 song "Welcome to My City". The original version featured Junior Reid and Eric Bellinger and was included on her double album, Wa to Yo. According to Japanese media (though it more likely is an interpretation of a formal press release), a DJ was playing a remix of the song he made at various venues in the States and it "gained traction". So, this remix version was released digitally by Ai's label, EMI Records (Universal Japan), featuring only Junior Reid instead.

For a long while, it seems Ai and her team have been trying odd ways of making her big break in the States. Her 2012 album Independent was her first worldwide album, she recorded a majority of it in her hometown Los Angeles, and she even toured in the states to promote the album.

All while digital promotion on DSPs have been non-existent. Especially in the age of streaming, just having radio airplay won't cut for success. And it is quite obvious this remix won't get a bunch of adds, but it has gotten quite a few
Her team was doing a promo where callers would get a free shirt even if they requested "Welcome to My City" to be played on their local radio
so I feel her management is taking this promotion like its the late 90s and early 2000s still with just radio only

Along with the poor promo, just her name as a whole will throw listeners off. Most people who see Ai (especially when its stylized as AI), will automatically assume artificial intelligence, not an actual person who is named Ai
I don't think it helps that the cover art for this remix single is more than likely AI-generated (the irony).

at this point, she should just perform under her full name. Other artists especially in the R&B and hip-hop scene performed with a mononymous name, like Joe, Aaliyah, Brandy, Ciara, etc. so I imagine thats where the inspiration was when she first debuted

i got a tooth filling a few weeks ago. never had one before, so that alone was an experience to get. but when the dentist initially finished the filling, i told them that the filling felt a bit high. they just said i couldn't properly tell because it was fresh and because of my face being numbed so i just went with it.
but like even after a few days, i noticed i still had issues chewing. it just hurt real bad, and i had to chew on only one side of my mouth
sensitive too, i was a pain just drinking cold water.
even wake up in the middle of the night in pain, like yeesh
my school schedule kinda made it impossible to visit the dentist again to get it checked out, so i had to wait about two weeks. mind you, completely ass. its also dumb i cannot miss x amount of days of school without automatically failing a class
but i went to the dentist today, and sure enough, i was in pain because the filling was too high!
so hopefully, i wont have to go back for another look at my filling for quite a while

In a very rare post on the alluthus socials, I detailed why this release was made. Been fascinated with how song recordings are mastered, and it’s something I’ve been trying to learn. GarageBand is kinda limited on that, but it’s perfect enough for an amateur like me. Just last year, Memory Lane tracks were remastered for the fifth anniversary edition while this year, the Life soundtrack was remastered and released on CD

So, that was why be my last was made. Just experimenting with different approaches and ways to master. Literally I spent quite a while trying to figure out how I wanted the final version to sound. Either had the recording too quiet or too loud or something like the drums would be way too loud or barely audible.
I paired it with mediocracy because it was released a few months ago. That track I also experimented with mastering it, but I originally made it some few years ago

Included on this single though is a re-recording of Undertow. In a technical sense, it probably isn’t a re-recording, but it sounds way different than the original recording. This new recording sounds way cleaner, not just because of the mastering, but also with how I exported it. The original version of undertow had some compression to it, which was a mix of on purpose and accidental. I wanted it to sound a certain way, but didn’t want it to sound low in quality. When I uploaded the single back in 2020, I accidentally uploaded a way lower quality version in an mp3 format! So that version always stuck until the ‘album version’ came out which was in a wav format

With this re-recording though, I also panned some of the instruments. Honestly another experiment for me, because I usually don’t do that for some reason. But it’s something I want to try to do more often so it doesn’t sound like every instrument is just right in the smack middle
